Day 10: 2005-08-05 (Friday)
I was formally welcomed by my Korean hosts at the guest house as we ate breakfast of toast and jam. We learned that we were all Christians, and thus ensued a lengthy conversation about many topics, including English grammar and expressions. After a long chat, I went upstairs to use the computer for Internet and word processing, and also to listen to some of my music which I had loaded onto my USB key. I was inspired to expand my Fav Trax CD of 24 audio tracks to MP3 format. I began formulating the contents of such a disc, and prepared a collection of 51 files, including the 24 tracks from the audio CD, plus instrumental versions of some of those songs, and a few extra “bonus” songs for good measure. The total collection was just over 200MB in size, so I thought about using the 3” mini CDs instead of normal 5” ones. Knowing that such goods would be far cheaper in Korea than almost anywhere else, I headed off to Yongsan to see what I could find after lunch.
Shopping around at Yongsan, I found 3” CDs for W10,000 for a box of 10. A little later, I saw the same CDs for W8,000. I would have bought them there and then, but the stall was unattended at the time, so I continued looking. Across the road, I discovered a massive CD stall, and their price was W7,500. I stopped looking, bought four boxes, plus 30 more empty 5” CD cases (at W1,500 for 10, they were almost half the price of the first ones I had bought at Sanseong a few days previously for W2,500). When I returned to the guest house, I modified the artwork and label copy to fit the new 3” size and saved all the changes.
After dinner, I went back to Lauren’s house to collect the rest of my luggage. This took another three hours of travelling. There was more than I expected to collect, and it was rather awkward, but I was able to manage. When I got back to Hongik, I began walking to the guest house, but I walked right past it without noticing. I was annoyed, because my luggage was heavy, and I had to go back and look carefully for the entrance to the guest house. Eventually I found it.
